Super Bowl 50: The Sheriff’s Last Ride

And thus, the regular season comes to an end. The 16 weeks of heated competition, followed by wild-card, divisional and championship weekends we won’t soon forget. On Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara, California, it came down to two: the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers.

Sheriff's Last Ride

The Denver Broncos walked away Super Bowl 50 champions, 24-10 winners over the Carolina Panthers. And in a season that saw turmoil following injury, former Indianapolis Colt Peyton Manning walked away with his second Super Bowl victory, in what could be his final game of his career.

“All I know is, I’m going to go out tonight and drink a lot of beer…drink a lot of Budweiser,” Manning said to CBS Sports analyst Jim Nantz when asked about pondering retirement.

Despite possibly being Manning’s final game as a player, it was the Broncos defense that stepped up and dominated the game. Broncos linebacker Von Miller, who would go on to be named Super Bowl 50 MVP, recorded six tackles, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble, which ended up leading to the game-clinching touchdown for the Broncos.

Carolina Panthers quarterback and league MVP Cam Newton, who had been phenomenal all season, struggled in Super Bowl 50, garnering only 265 yards and one interception on 18-of-41 passing. Newton was hurried over 20 times in the game, being hit 10 times and sacked 7 times.

Moving forward, the question becomes not if, but when, the Denver Broncos will be handing the reins over to quarterback Brock Osweiler. But for now, the Broncos will enjoy their moment as world champions. And their moment, to drink a lot of Budweiser.

Sad the NFL season is over? Don’t be! Just because the season is over, doesn’t mean it’s too early to get started on your football experiences for next season! Check out our Indianapolis Colts London Travel Package! Complete with a private air charter, a game ticket, a four-night stay in a deluxe hotel, pregame tailgate festivities and more! Let’s keep thinking positive…think football!

Fatal Faults of the Super Bowl Contenders

Super Bowl 2016 Preview

The Broncos aren’t favorites going into Super Bowl 50. In fact, they’re underdogs. It shows how the passage of time effects athletes, when Peyton Manning, arguably one the greatest quarterbacks ever, isn’t expected to win. The Carolina Panthers are generally considered the far more balanced team. And the better overall team usually wins the game. Right?

So, what could stop the Carolina Panthers? Manning. Chiefs Defensive Coordinator, Bob Sutton, says that no matter what might be physically ailing the legendary quarterback “this — the brain — is still here … I think people don’t understand what a great job he does of getting his team in the right play, or the right run. You know, it’s really what coach Belichick said — you never want to underestimate Peyton Manning. This guy can finish a game off as good as anybody in the history of the NFL … That’s what he does, he’s very smart, he knows what to do and you’re not going to fool him a lot.” Manning’s ability to understand the defense before he throws the ball is a big part of what keeps him sharp. More than this though, the Broncos need one more moment of Manning magic. One more late, great, nail-biting, come-from-behind victory, is what they need to be champions again.

However, it’s been Broncos defense that has gotten the team this far. Their defense is the ideal. Truly. The edge rushers DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller are great. Both the lineman Derek Wolfe and Malik Jackson provide pressure. And they’re rounded out by a great group of corners in Aqib Talib, Chris Harris and Bradley Roby. Don’t forget T.J. Ward either. Overall, if you look at these guys, it makes sense to see them playing in the Super Bowl together. That defense was a problem for the Patriots. And it could be a problem for the Panthers as well.

So much of the Super Bowl is pressure. Maybe being underdogs will give Peyton Manning and co. the extra edge they need to win. Maybe they’ll pull it all together and give Peyton one last ring for the road. It makes for a great story line.

But, Carolina is the top pick for a reason. Cam Newton is commanding the Panthers momentum train to commanding win after win. He’s a mobile quarterback who poses a consistent threat. He uses his legs to make the yards. But he’s a dual-threat who has a great arm to backup his QB roster listing. He’s dynamic. Carolina’s defense is good as well. The Panthers force turnovers. They’ve outscored opponents. They don’t let anyone get a foothold to really start the game going. That’s where the Broncos could falter. They won’t get able to get any rhythm, they’ll be stuck with an aging QB, and they’ll quickly lose sight of the score.

The 14-4 Denver Broncos will face the 15-1 Carolina Panthers this Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California for the final showdown of the season. Nobody picked the Panthers to make it this far. Hardly anyone chose the Broncos either. But, oh man, most of America is rooting for one or the other right now.

If you’re as excited to see this game as we are, make sure you have the best Super Bowl 50 tickets & packages to see the Broncos take on the Panthers. It’s going to be a great game! If you’re looking for something to do the day of the Super Bowl before the historic game, our Players Super Bowl Tailgate opens at 10:30 a.m. PST the day of the game. There’s still room to join us, emcee Erin Andrews, chef Guy Fieri, and 25+ NFL players! Let’s do this!

Super Bowl 50: MVP Predictions

MVP 2015 Predictions

As we look forward to crowning the new Super Bowl victors, speculation about the next MVP begins to heat up. Who will be named this year’s most valuable player? The NFL’s most valuable player award is the pinnacle of personal achievement awards in the league. Debate always swirls around who will win, and who should win. It’s never certain, what makes one player or another worthy of the title. What should be the proper criteria for even determining who could win? We reviewed this year’s top MVP candidates heading into the first week of the playoffs, and chose the three most likely candidates.

Carson Palmer

The quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals has been quiet, yet mighty. Carson Palmer has led his team to a respectable 13-3 season, the best of his career. It makes him one of the top two quarterbacks in the league going into the playoffs.

Coming off of a season-ending knee injury in 2014, Palmer has led his team to victory after victory. Going into the playoffs, he says the finger injury is no longer a concern. So, he should be able to continue his great season moving forward. The Cardinals nabbed the NFC West title and clinched a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs. Palmer’s 34 touchdowns thrown ranks third in the NFL. Palmer himself ranks in the top four in every statistics as a quarterback, including yards (4,542) and rating (106.8).

If the Cardinals go far in this year’s post-season, not only would Palmer be an unsurprising choice for NFL MVP. But, he’ll also qualify for the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award, if he doesn’t make it to Super Bowl 5o.

Cam Newton

The Panthers didn’t get to keep their loss-less season. But that doesn’t mar their otherwise spectacular regular-season run. Despite losing their first game to the aforementioned Atlanta Falcons in week  16, the flashy quarterback in Carolina is still having a career season for his possible Super Bowl 50 bound Panthers.

Cam Newton is also more than just a guy who throws the ball. In week 16, on an 8-yard touchdown scramble, Cam Newton became the first quarterback in NFL history to record over 30 passing touchdowns and eight rushing touchdowns in one season. That’s more in one season than the legendary Randall Cunningham or Michael Vick can boast. Also note, Newton has been doing so all season without his number one receiver in Kelvin Benjamin.

Carolina’s unexpected power-house status isn’t limited to their offense. Don’t go so far as to discount how Carolina’s defense has aided in the Panther’s quest for the NFC’s top seed. But it has been Newton, as the energetic and youthful spark, who has created what every team needs in a franchise quarterback. Without a doubt, Newton leads the league’s MVP race at the start of the playoff madness, and it’s hard to see him being surpassed.

Tom Brady

Tom Brady? An MVP favorite? What a surprise! No? As long as Tom Brady has football gear on he’s considered to be a favorite for the Super Bowl MVP. More than any year previously, the Patriots relied on their veteran quarterback.

After a widely publicized off-season that saw a four-game “Deflategate” suspension, public backlash and that same suspension overturned by a federal judge, it looks as though Brady channeled his frustrations into one of the best seasons of his career. He threw for NFL-high passing yards and touchdowns. Brady has led his Patriots to an AFC-best 12-4 record. All of these numbers are in spite of losing players like Dion Lewis and Lagarrette Blount for the season, and receivers Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski for a few games.

Brady has cemented himself in both the MVP and Super Bowl conversation for the better part of the past decade. This year is like any other year in his storied NFL career.

Watch what last year’s Players Super Bowl Tailgate looked like:

What Makes a Good Super Bowl 50 Halftime

Halftime shows used to be quiet, boring moments to get up, take a stretch, eat some snacks, and chat about the game. But starting in 1991, with New Kids on the Block’s performance, the halftime show added some glitter and glam. Previously the halftime shows featured college bands preforming center stage, just like normal, home-town, football games. But halftime become an Event starting in 1993, when Michael Jackson preformed.

Since then, the halftime shows have become must-watch events. But what makes one halftime show better than another? We’ve narrowed it down to these 5 things we think make the big difference. But, feel free to tell us if you think we’re wrong!

A Good Game

If it’s an exciting game, if the lead is switching back and forth, and both teams are making great plays, the momentum of excitement will follow the football into the halftime performance. Like Katy Perry’s appearance last year.

A Good Performer

Bruce Springsteen. He’s a great performer. He made a great halftime show. Beyoncé, Prince, even U2. These are good performers, so their halftime show was better.

A Good Stage

The special effects! The stage! It’s amazing that was a football field just a couple minutes ago! The best stages means we can see the performer, and maybe some fireworks.

Something Memorable

Something has to happen to distinguish that year from every other. Whether it’s the lion, the left shark, or Janet Jackson. It’s what makes us say, “oh yeah,” that was a good halftime.

Being There

Really, if it looks cool on TV, it looks better in person.

So how will this year’s Super Bowl halftime show shape up? According to the NFL, the Pepsi Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show on CBS will “echo elements of the NFL’s On the Fifty campaign — honoring the past, recognizing the present and looking ahead to the next 50 years.” Sounds exciting right?

But the 2016 halftime has big shoes to fill, last year, Katy Perry had a great halftime show with Lenny Kravtiz and Missy Elliott. The Super Bowl XLIX halftime show attracted the most viewers ever, over 118.5 million people watched!

We have faith this year’s halftime will be great. There has been some drama about the NFL’s choice of halftime performers, Coldplay for the 2016 Super Bowl. But Coldplay has promised to “give it everything we have.” So it’s sure to be a fun watch! As to who is going to join them on stage, that’s left up in the air. There have been many other rumors of who’s going else will be entertaining us while the players huddle. Bruno Mars, Beyoncé and even Maroon 5 have been mentioned.

Regardless, it will be a huge show. The NFL has been going all out so far for Super Bowl 50, so for the big anniversary show, it’s going to be great!

Your Super Bowl ticket means you can also see a band at halftime as well! So you get a good concert and good football! If halftime is always your favorite part of the Super Bowl, you can still get tickets to go see Super Bowl 2016 in person!

Strange Predictors of the Super Bowl

Odd Predictors of the Super Bowl

The team who gets crowned victors for Super Bowl 50 will hold a legendary title. But, guessing who that winner will be is tricky. Even now that we’re in the playoffs, it’s still a big question mark. Lucky for us, there’s a long history in predicting Super Bowl winners. Even better, that history is a bit strange. Here’s a look at some of our favorite odd predictors of Super Bowl victory. But, really, you might be better off just flipping a coin.

One predictor of who will win the Super Bowl is the jobless rate. Seriously. CNBC says the team who’s city has a lower unemployment rate during the previous year is more likely to win the Super Bowl. They suggest the prosperity of a city has to do with how well their team will fare. Maybe it has something to do with morale? Or maybe if the team is from a thriving area, the football fans will have more money to spend. If the denizens are more financially stable, they might be able to travel to the Super Bowl. And more fans in the stadium can make a team a home-town favorite.

There’s also the old-standby way of predicting who will win. Playing EA Sports’ NFL Madden video game. The virtual simulation of the Super Bowl contenders makes something of an educated guess about who will win. As of last year, the predictions ran at 80%. Not too shabby.

Predicting who’s going to win might also depend whether or not the professional football players are early birds or night owls. This one makes a bit of sense, sorta. The idea is that because athlete performance varies widely throughout the day, in turn, the players used to playing at night do better, while the players who’s body clocks are more accustomed to the early morning, do worse playing the late night Super Bowl game. Of course, time zone, overall player health, age, diet, and training all still matter. Incorporated in this idea is cognitive ability as well. Football is sometimes called – chess on a playing field. For example, reading opponents is a necessary component of winning, but might be harder to do with a tired mind. When players are sleepy, they might not preform up to expectations. It’s an interesting theory at the very least.

Don’t lets forget the somewhat strange idea that the US stock market health for the new year depends on who wins the Super Bowl. The theory goes that if the AFL wins the championship title, the market will end down. Whereas if the NFL takes home the Lombardi trophy, the stock market prices for the year will go up. They call it the Super Bowl Market Predictor. And as of now, it hovers around the 75% accuracy mark. That’s not so bad. But, it’s a bit scary to think that the fate of the US economy might depend upon one game of football.

Along with strange predictions, there are also strange deterrents. No NFL coach has ever won the Super Bowl twice with two different teams. Hopefully, it would never be a good enough reason to hire a great head coach, but the fact still remains true. It would make sense that a team leader who’s been to the Super Bowl before, would do better if he gets there again. In reality, the option hasn’t presented itself very often to very many coaches. Regardless, it’s still a bit mind-boggling.

There are also a few more serious predictors of the Super Bowl, point differential during the regular season, previous Super Bowl experience, better defense, scoring the first points, leading at halftime … the list goes on and on. The conventional option of predicting the Super Bowl is statistics. Mathematical models.

Statisticians and researchers look at the injuries, turnovers, passing yards, rushing, total yards gained, touchdowns, possession time, third-down conversion rates, sacks, completions, etc. This prediction theory has the longest history. It makes the most logical sense. Really, taking all these factors into account should make the game as dry and boring as the box-score. But, it’s not nearly as much fun. It also doesn’t take into account the human variables that change every game.

ESPN favors the Arizona Cardinals to be this year’s Super Bowl champs. Their FPI says the Cardinals have a 29% chance of being in the 50th Super Bowl. Compare that to the next best team with the Panthers at 20%. They see the Cardinals as the most “complete team.” And there’s a good chance they’ll be playing the New England Patriots. If you want to see the championship NFL game even if you’re not yet 100% who will be playing, Super Bowl 2016 tickets and packages are available. Or if you want to wait to buy tickets until you’re sure your team will make it, we understand.
