2021 Super Bowl: History of Tampa

With the road to Super Bowl 55 in Tampa, Florida officially here, we are approaching the beginning of the new 2020-21 league year. But before the free agent frenzy and NFL draft, we are looking back at the history of Tampa as a Super Bowl host.

2021 Super Bowl: History of Tampa

The city of Tampa is hosting its fifth Super Bowl in 2021, with the most recent having being Super Bowl XLIII in 2009 between the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Raymond James Stadium will play host to it’s third Super Bowl in 2021 with Super Bowl 55. Opened in 2018, the stadium has also hosted an impressive resume of events — including the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship.

Prior to Super Bowl 55 in 2021, Raymond James Stadium has hosted two prior Super Bowls, and the city of Tampa has hosted four others overall.

Super Bowl XVIII was played on January 22, 1984 at Tampa Stadium between the Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Raiders. The Raiders would go on to win handily, by a score of 38-9.

In 1991, Super Bowl XXV returned to Tampa Stadium. A showdown between the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants, running back Ottis Anderson would capture MVP honors as the Giants would win by just one point — 20-19.

Super Bowl XXXV, played in 2001, was Raymond James Stadium’s first Super Bowl hosted. The Baltimore Ravens would capture their first Super Bowl title, manhandling the New York Giants and winning by a score of 34-7.

Finally, an instant classic, Super Bowl XLIII was the second to be played at Raymond James Stadium. The Pittsburgh Steelers would walk away Super Bowl champions thanks to a late toe-tapping touchdown by Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes.

Super Bowl LV, which will be played on Sunday, February 7th, 2021, will be the fifth Super Bowl hosted in Tampa, and the third played at Raymond James Stadium.

Road to Super Bowl 55: Combine Preview

Just as the football season winds down following the Super Bowl, the new league year is set to begin in just a few weeks. The first step on the road to Super Bowl 55 in Tampa in 2021? The 2020 NFL Combine.

While some teams are sending their entire staff to take part in the NFL Combine, others are only sending scouts — but the importance all remains the same when it comes to evaluating the next level of talent coming to the NFL in the 2020 draft. Here’s a quick breakdown of the schedule and positional breakdowns of each day at the combine.

QB, TE, WR — Thursday, February 27th — 4-11 p.m. ET

As each team prepare to take the first step on the Road to Super Bowl LV in 2021, the key position those on the oustide-looking-in is the quarterback.

Everyone looking for the new league MVP Lamar Jackson or Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes will want to pay close attention to the first day of the combine, now taking place in primetimeAlongside QBs, pass catchers will take center stage as wide receivers and tight ends will work out as well.

OL, RB, ST, PK — Friday, February 28th — 4-11 p.m. ET

On Friday night, special teams and offensive big men will take the spotlight, along with those looking for the next Alvin Kamara or Melvin Ingram. Following the special teams and linemen, running backs will take center stage in the workout portions.

DL, LB — Saturday, February 29th — 4-11 p.m. ET

Those looking to bolster their defensive front seven will want to pay close attention on the third day of the combine, as defensive linemen and linebackers will work out for scouts, in hopes of finding the next Darius Leonard, Dee Ford or Jadaveon Clowney.

DB — Sunday, March 1st — 2-7 p.m. ET

On the final day of the combine, the always skilled defensive backs will take center stage. And while many teams will be looking for the next Richard Sherman or Tyrann Mathieu, plenty of teams will just be looking to bolster their passing defensive in a pass-first league.

“Way Too Early” Odds for Super Bowl 55 | Tampa 2021

A few weeks removed from one of the most exciting Super Bowls of the last decade, the Kansas City Chiefs are your defending Super Bowl champions. As all eyes turn to Tampa for Super Bowl 55, we’re taking a look at the way-too-early odds for the big game in 2021.

  • The Kansas City Chiefs, of course, are the current odds-on favorites to defend their title from Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
  • The Baltimore Ravens, one of the hottest teams of the 2019 NFL season, come in a close second to make it to Tampa in 2021.
  • The San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots round out the top five to make Super Bowl LV.

Looking Ahead: 2021 Super Bowl 55 in Tampa

The 2019-20 NFL season has officially come and gone, and the Kansas City Chiefs are your new defending Super Bowl champions! Led by an incredible comeback by Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs captured their first title in over 50 years in Super Bowl 54 in Miami. Now, we’re already looking ahead — to Super Bowl 55 in 2021 in Tampa, Florida.

The Host

The city of Tampa is hosting its fifth Super Bowl in 2021, with the most recent having being Super Bowl XLIII in 2009 between the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tampa is a city on Tampa Bay, along Florida’s Gulf Coast. A major business center, the city of Tampa is also known for its museums and other cultural offerings. Busch Gardens is an African-themed amusement park with thrill rides and animal-viewing areas. The historic Ybor City neighborhood, developed by Cuban and Spanish cigar-factory workers at the turn of the 20th century, is a dining and nightlife destination.

The Stadium
