Super Bowl 48 is not only the first-ever, cold weather outdoor Super Bowl, it’s also the first to be hosted by two states! On Groundhog Day! Plus, it’s also called the first mass transit Super Bowl, and for good reason. Mass transit is safe, fast and a very reliable way to travel in the area, with pretty much all of the regional rail and bus providers adding more service and connections throughout the Super Bowl celebration. Metro North, NJ Transit, Path trains, subways, buses and turnpikes, oh my!
Here’s a fun mass transit tutorial from none other than former NY Giants Super Bowl champion Michael Strahan:
With approximately 400,000 visitors expected to come to the region for game-related events, and at least 80,000 attending the game on Sunday February 2, removing potential snow from important travel routes is critical to safely moving everyone all over the region. As luck would have it, New York and New Jersey have been preparing for years. The NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee has a weather preparedness plan in place for Super Bowl 48, and it’s whole and complete –right down to melting snow in MetLife Stadium.
“There may be no way to predict the weather – which could range from sunshine and mild temperatures to blizzard-like conditions – but we can be prepared for any and everything,” says Al Kelly, president and CEO of the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee. “The expertise of our stadium and street snow removal crews will ensure that all visitors can travel safely to events throughout the week and enjoy the game on February 2.”
In addition, the Host Committee explains there are only three ways to get to MetLife Stadium on game day: The Fan Express bus (tickets need to be bought by January 24), the NJ Transit train system (Super Pass, only available until January 20) and buying a stadium parking pass for your car via Click-And-Park (extremely limited space available). We’ve got one more -and dare we say, stellar- way to travel to Super Bowl 48 …
