The Pro Bowl Visits Arizona
October 8th, 2014 by John Nichols
For only the third time in the history of football, the Pro Bowl will be played in the same locale as the Super Bowl!
We know you are looking forward to Super Bowl XLIX this February in Arizona, but do you know the Pro Bowl will also be played at the University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday, January 25, 2015? This is your chance to be a part of both big games!
Fantasy Football for Real
The Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl have only been played in the same location twice before: Los Angeles in 1967 and South Florida in 2010. One of the most exciting games of the year, the NFL has made the Pro Bowl even more of an anticipated event for fans as an unconferenced game, with player match-ups never before seen, voted on by coaches, players and the fans themselves. The NFL likes to call it “Fantasy Football for Real,” and we think the fans agree! Watched by 11.4 million viewers, the 2014 Pro Bowl – the first to feature the unconferenced match-ups- is the most-watched all-star game in all of sports the past four years.
History of the Pro Bowl
The Pro Bowl has been played for over 70 years, featuring top-ranked players from the NFL. After the merger of the NFL and the AFL leagues in 1970, the game became known as the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl, featuring top players from both conferences. The first Pro Bowl (as we know it today) was called the All Star Game and was played on January 15, 1939 in Los Angeles. Since 1980, the desirable vacation spot of Hawaii has hosted the majority of the Pro Bowl events, offering a bit of a perk to both fans and the players. The Pro Bowl heads back to Aloha Stadium in Hawaii in 2016.
Tailgate at the Pro Bowl
Pro Bowl 2015 comes complete with its very own NFL Pro Bowl Tailgate Party, which kicks off at University of Phoenix Stadium three hours before the start of the game and includes:
- A VIP Party Tent
- Complimentary wine and beer bar
- Incredible food
- On Location Guest Access
- Live entertainment
- A whole lot more!
The NFL Pro Bowl Tailgate Party and the Pro Bowl are just the start of a fun-filled, family friendly Super Bowl Week, which kicks off just days afterward with the opening of Super Bowl Central, the 12-block NFL Super Bowl Celebration Zone Super Bowl Central that’s free to the public and features live music performances by big-name and local talent, football themed activities for all ages and showcases local culture and food -a new addition to Arizona’s line-up of Super Bowl activities since the state last hosted the Super Bowl in 2008. One million visitors are expected to participate!
