Final Roster (For Now)

The Colts whittled their roster down to the final 53 on Saturday, the final cuts of the NFL’s preseason. And as always with NFL roster cuts, a few surprises were unveiled.

Head coach Chuck Pagano and general manager Ryan Grigson made the decision to keep three quarterbacks on the roster for 2016, electing to retain not only Scott Tolzien but also Stephen Morris. Given the quarterbacking situation in 2015 following Andrew Luck’s injury, Colts fans are most likely receptive to the idea of an extra QB on the roster.

The Colts also made some notable cuts on Saturday. Indianapolis cut linebacker Nate Irving, who was acquired from the Denver Broncos in 2015, after an underwhelming preseason. The team also let go veteran running back Stevan Ridley, just six days after signing the player.

There were also a few post-Saturday waiver claims which awarded the Colts with some much-needed defensive secondary help.

Week 1 vs. Detroit Lions

Andrew Luck’s first official regular season action since a week 9 injury in 2015 will be against the Detroit Lion on Sunday, a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff time at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Lions will be sporting a noticeable absence on the offensive front, after future hall of fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson Jr. decided to retire in the 2016 offseason. Quarterback Matthew Stafford will be left to find receivers such as Golden Tate to fill Johnson’s void.

Prediction; Indianapolis Colts 24, Detroit Lions 14
